Chile supports solar thermal energy

The law applies to new residential buildings and is initially valid until 2013. Systems capable of covering at least 30 % of a building's hot water requirement are eligible for this support. The amount of tax relief granted depends on the value of the building. It ranges from 100 % in the case of small buildings with a value of up to 2,000 Unidades de Fomento (UDF – inflation-adjusted accounting currency) and 40 % for buildings up to 3,000 UDF, to 20 % for buildings with a value of up to 4,500 UDF. On 1st October, one UDF was worth € 26.54.
