It supplies 1,200 homes, which have a heating demand of 40 GWh/a. The hot water demand in the summer is completely covered, and the annual energy demand for heating and hot water is covered to the tune of 10 %. In a first expansion phase the solar collector area is now being expanded to 18,000 m² and combined with a ground loop heat storage. The solar coverage is thus to be increased to approx. 20 %. 50 Raugeo probes by Rehau AG + Co. from Germany have been put into the ground to a depth of almost 48 m. In the summer, the water heated by the solar system circulates to the ground probes at up to 85 ºC. This heats the ground, which is used as a heat storage. When needed, the stored heat is withdrawn via a circulating water loop and a heat pump.
The plan is to expand the collector area to 60,000 m², combined with 300 to 400 probes, to achieve a solar coverage of 60 % of the total annual energy demand.
