Lately, anyone involved in the solar power sector will have often heard that the future of the industry lies in large-scale plants. A company which has clearly also heard this is now celebrating its first anniversary. The company Sunoptimo from Belgium sells drain-back systems for large-scale solar thermal plants. In the first year the company was able to acquire experience with systems ranging from 60 to 70 m2 collector surface. These can be found for example on sports halls and nursing homes. However Sunoptimo is aiming for larger installations of between 100 and 500 m2 in the future. This makes the Belgian company especially appealing to industrial companies. Jean-Baptiste Malaud, technical manager at Sunoptimo, told Sun & Wind Energy that the first projects are already in the pipeline. However, due to the long planning times, the young company is not able to demonstrate any references. In addition, the Belgians want to advance into new markets. Up till now the company has mainly been active in Belgium, France and parts of the Mediterranean Sea area, but is aiming to operate in the entire European market.
