E.ON wants to produce more wind energy in Germany. To implement this strategy, E.ON Climate & Renewables is now taking over the German activities of Kassel based Vortex Energy.

A new three-year partnership between two of the United States’ largest players in solar energy, Array Technologies and sPower, was announced at the GTM Solar Summit in southern California.

Marko Topic, Professor at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Elec. Eng. and Affiliate Professor at the Colorado State University, was reelected as ETIP PV Chairman. Wim C Sinke, Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands and Gaëtan Masson, Managing Director of Becquerel Institute, Brussels, had been reelected as vice-chairmen of the ETIP PV.

Sorption chillers may still be a niche market, but Europe’s manufacturers reported rising demand for solar thermal cooling in Italy, Spain and the Middle East in 2017. Solar thermal numbers are on the rise because of three factors: the potential to reduce power consumption, including peak loads; the option to use natural refrigerants, such as water; and the ability to provide demand-responsive heating and cooling throughout the year.

In early 2018, two German organisations agreed on a joint membership model to promote solar thermal air conditioning and cooling, a niche market in the country. The cooperation between the Green Chiller Association for Sorption Cooling and the Central Association for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps, or ZVKKW for short, is hoped to popularise innovative and sustainable cooling solutions.

On Monday, April 30th the Taiwanese Ministry of Economy announced the award of 1 GW of grid connection capacity for the implementation of the offshore wind projects Yunlin and Guanyin to wpd. With the award of these projects developed by wpd during the last years, the company is meeting an important milestone of its strategy to expand its leading role for the energy transition of Taiwan. After more than ten years presence and together with partners, wpd reached a market share of about 50 percent in the onshore business. wpd will also stand in the frontline of the first offshore projects to be implemented.

Huawei and BayWa r.e., have signed a deal to build Don Rodrigo, which will become the biggest single-site PV plant in Spain and the first truly subsidy-free fully commercialized utility-scale PV plant in the world. Huawei will provide its fully digitalized Smart PV Solution complete with a combination of SUN2000-60KTL and SUN2000-100KTL inverters. This will be a significant milestone for the Spanish solar industry and marks another step for advancing the digitalization of solar technology.
