DOE support programme for commercialisation of solar technology

This project, called Solar Incubator, is to give small companies the chance to improve their innovation potential through working together with the NREL and other DOE labs. The programme is especially aimed at collaborations which have the potential to reduce the costs of solar electricity and to spread solar technology more widely.

Masdar PV provides modules for BIPV (Building-integrated photovoltaics) façade

Ichtershausen / Dornach - Masdar PV, a manufacturer of extra-large thin-film PV modules, has now supplied PV modules for installation on a building façade for the first time. This PV façade solution has been realised in cooperation with Gehrlicher Solar AG, which recently presented this new type of façade system at Intersolar. The system is based on the proven gehrtec mounting system.

Masdar increases efficiency of thin-film modules

Thus, the efficiency increased over 1 % absolute in the last 6 months. Masdar now offers a-Si modules with a nominal output of 420 W (for 5.7 m2).The gain in efficiency is based on optimised production steps and improved quality checks. Among others, the progress is scheduled to seven “Inline Metrology” systems, which permit precise characterisation of solar modules.

PV Module Shipments Grow Again in Q2, But Inventory Levels Remain Critical says IMS Research

Wellinborough - PV module shipments grew for the sixth consecutive quarter to 4.4 GW in Q2'10, whilst channel inventory also remained extremely high at almost the same figure, according to ongoing analysis from IMS Research.

IMS Research: PV Cell Capacity Continues to Climb But Margins Will Fall in 2011

Wellinborough - Annualized PV cell production capacity increased once again in Q2'10, reaching over 25 GW according to a recent report from IMS Research. IMS Research forecasts that capacity will reach 33 GW by the end of the year, over 80% of which will be for crystalline cell technologies and warns that gross margins will fall in 2011.

Upsolar Partners with Enphase Energy on ACE

Upsolar, a leading international solar module supply partner, has announced a partnership with Enphase Energy, Inc., the leader in solar microinverter technology. Current and future generations of Upsolar's PV modules will incorporate Enphase junction boxes compatible with Enphase microinverters, resulting in an AC-enabled solar module product, known as ACE.

SunPower Plans 3.5-Megawatt Solar System for Macy´s Arizona Fulfillment Center

San José - SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWRA, SPWRB) today announced that construction is underway on a 3.5-megawatt SunPower solar power system at Macy's, Inc. online fulfillment center in Goodyear, Ariz. The system will deliver the equivalent of 70 percent of the 600,000-square-foot building's electricity demand, and is expected to be the largest solar system on a single rooftop in the U.S.
