Siemens commissions new offshore base port in Eemshaven

Siemens wants to build a new offshore service hub in the Dutch port of Eemshaven. The site will be used as a base port for the operation and maintenance services that Siemens will supply for the Dutch Gemini wind farm.


Nordex and Acciona Windpower are now one company

After merger clearance by the relevant competition authorities has been approved, the Nordex group can now merge with Acciona Windpower (AWP). Together, the two companies want to address 80% of the global wind power market.


ABB is building the connection for the 1.2-GW wind farm Hornsea Project One

ABB has been commissioned by the Danish energy company Dong Energy to build a 220-kilovolt high-voltage cable system. The system will connect the offshore wind farm Hornsea Project One in the North Sea with the British east coast and supply approximately one million households with wind energy.

More wind turbines in the North and Baltic Seas were connected to the grid in 2015 than ever before. For this reason, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to detect malfunctions and plan maintenance work on offshore wind farms as early as possible.


Construction is starting on the offshore wind farm Wikinger

On 17 March 2016, Iberdrola officially kicked off the construction of its offshore wind farm Wikinger with an event at the Sassnitz ferry port. The total investment volume for the project is € 1.4 billion.


MHI Vestas Offshore Wind doubles its presence at Danish Port of Esbjerg

The offshore expert MHI Vestas Offshore Wind increases its lease at the Danish Port of Esbjerg from 54,200 to 138,000 m². The space will be used for pre-assembly and shipment of offshore wind turbine components.


Trianel Windpark Borkum: 452 GWh generated in 6 months

During its first six months of operation, since the commissioning on 1 September 2015, the offshore wind farm “Trianel Windpark Borkum” has generated 452.33 GWh of electricity. January 2016 was the month with the highest yield so far with 95.12 GWh. The technical availability of the 40 wind turbines during the first expansion phase was more than 90 %.


Recharge invests in hybrid renewable energy storage project on Graciosa

The Danish financial investor Recharge will take a 50.1 percent stake in a hybrid renewable storage project on the Azorean island of Graciosa. The megawatt-scale grid-forming renewable energy system is developed by Younicos.

Wind Prospect Operations opened a subsidiary in Sweden. The company’s asset management portfolio has been given another significant boost by signing contracts for the management of two large wind farms totalling 180MW in its newest market.


Siemens builds rotor blade factory in Morocco

Siemens will build a new rotor blade factory in Morocco. Up to 700 jobs will be created. The total investment is more than € 100 million.
